Kelty, one of America's long-established outdoor brands, was founded in 1952 by Dick Kelty. Mr. Kelty is known as the "Father of the Frame Backpack". He designed the first aluminum skeleton backpack, the first belt, the first foam-filled shoulder strap and belt, the first nylon backpack, and the first one. A quick release buckle on the belt and a first zip pocket. The belt was his most important invention. The invention of the belt transformed the weight of the backpack from the shoulder and spine to the pelvis. On January 13, 2004, Mr. Kelty resigned from the world and his inventions created a precedent for modern backpack design, making backpacking a pleasure.
