The spallation neutron source (CSNS) manager department organized a CSNS drift tube linear accelerator (DTL) prototype appraisal meeting at the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and an expert group from Peking University and the High Energy Institute heard the development report and test report of the project And watched the live test video. After careful discussion, the expert group believed that the project had met the requirements for prototype pre-research and agreed to pass the acceptance.

At the appraisal meeting, the project leader Yin Xuejun introduced the development background and key technical difficulties of the project, and reported on the development process of the project and the results of debugging and measurement of the prototype.

After careful discussion, experts in the appraisal group believe that the DTL accelerator is one of the key equipment for the spallation neutron source accelerator in China. The prototype development has the following characteristics: In the physical design, the shortcomings of the international DTL structural design method were found, and a method of modifying the local resonance frequency to improve the electric field distribution was proposed to improve the overall design accuracy; for the first time in China Successfully used the periodic reverse electroforming process for the development of large-size high-frequency vacuum accelerator chambers. For the first time in the world, the oxygen-free copper drift tube structure was used for the first time, and the whole wire cutting of the drift tube magnet coil was used for the first time in China. The processing technology and the collimation accuracy of the drift tube accelerator reached the international level of similar accelerators; the project initially established a DTL cavity high-frequency cold measurement system, independently developed measurement and debugging software, and mastered the field adjustment method of this type of accelerator.

The appraisal team agreed that the CSNS drift tube linear accelerator prototype is a very difficult pre-research project; the project team solved the technical problems of key components such as DTL cavity and drift tube through independent design and joint research with manufacturers. The key processing technology and test technology have accumulated a lot of experience in the manufacture, processing and debugging of this type of accelerator; the technical solution route of DTL accelerator from physical design, processing and manufacturing to installation and debugging has been initially formed; after evaluation and testing, the prototype The performance index meets the design requirements set forth in the mission statement, laying a solid foundation for the CSNS DTL official equipment to be put into production and achieving the purpose of prototype development.
