Airbus and Tsinghua University jointly promote R & D of alternative fuels such as drain oil

Airbus will cooperate with Tsinghua University to select aviation alternative fuels among cooking oil, seaweed, etc. to promote the large-scale production and commercialization of aviation alternative fuels in China.

According to the agreement signed between Airbus and Tsinghua University, the two parties will cooperate in conducting research on environmentally friendly aviation alternative fuels, including the selection of alternative fuel raw materials, establishment of an industrial chain, and promotion of commercial models. The industrial chain aims to promote the production, promotion and application of environmentally friendly biofuels in China. In the first phase of the study, biofuel raw materials that meet the requirements of ecological environment, economic benefits, and sustainable development will be analyzed and studied.

The research work will be led by Airbus, with the close participation of Tsinghua University and some top European colleges. According to reports, the first results of the study are expected to be published in the second half of 2012, when some possible alternative fuels will be selected, such as used cooking oil (also known as "ditch oil") and seaweed. The entire sustainability analysis is expected to be completed in early 2013, after which both parties will conduct research on the process of large-scale production of alternative fuels and commercial use.

Professor Zhang Xiliang, Director of the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economics at Tsinghua University, said: "This project will help us improve our understanding of the nature of China's aviation biofuel commercialization issues, identify opportunities and challenges in the process, and assess social, economic, and market And the possibility of technological change and its costs, obstacles and challenges. I believe our research results will have a positive impact on promoting energy conservation and emission reduction in China's aviation sector and responding to climate change. "

"Airbus is working hard to promote the development of the aviation industry in a more environmentally friendly direction, and the commercialization of alternative fuels is one of the most important elements." Airbus New Energy Project Leader Frederick Ucheni said that Airbus is committed to To establish a complete environmentally friendly aviation biofuel production system in China, research cooperation with Tsinghua University is one step. Airbus plans to establish an environmentally friendly aviation alternative fuel industry chain on all continents in the world. Currently, it has established an environmentally friendly aviation alternative fuel industry chain in Latin America, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. With the participation of China, Asia will also join the ranks .
