3D print headgear that can be lit

3D printing can be used in all areas, including film and television entertainment. Recently, 3D printing headwear made by London designer Moritz Waldemeyer was used in Jay Kay's music video.

Jay Kay recommends the use of pangolin scales as a headdress design, while Waldemeyer combines natural aesthetics with futuristic highlights. The result is a scaled helmet that moves, discolors and illuminates. As Waldemeyer said in an interview, “Jay Kay's inspiration for us is pangolin. It not only captures his imagination as an endangered species, but the scale model also provides a good starting point for aesthetics.”

The headphones in the music video consist of separate 3D prints, each of which is electrically powered and has embedded LED pixels. When assembled, the scales will have an almost corrugated effect as the color of the light changes and the scales move. As the designer puts it, the individual's nervous system is visually externalized by controlling the overall effect of each scale angle and light.
