Centrifugal force calculation formula and increasing centrifugal force method

Centrifugal Force Calculation and Methods to Enhance It The centrifugal force plays a crucial role in determining the efficiency of separation in a centrifuge. Therefore, understanding how to increase this force is a key area of research for every centrifuge manufacturer. The formula used to calculate centrifugal force (RCF) is: **RCF = 11.2 × R × (r/min / 1000)²** In this equation, **R** refers to the radius of the rotor's bowl or basket, while **r/min** represents the rotational speed in revolutions per minute. From this formula, there are two primary methods to increase the centrifugal force: 1. Increasing the radius of rotation, which means using a larger centrifuge basket. 2. Increasing the rotational speed. While increasing the radius can improve the force, it also increases the overall size of the centrifuge. Therefore, many manufacturers prefer to boost the rotational speed as a more efficient way to enhance centrifugal force and improve performance. Currently, most centrifuges operate at centrifugal forces below 3000×g. Although increasing the motor speed is a straightforward way to achieve higher forces, safety remains a critical concern. The rotor must be strong enough to withstand high-speed rotation, and the centrifuge housing should be made of thick steel plates (typically 3mm) with an effective shock absorption system. Many market-made centrifuge baskets are made of stainless steel, but our company follows the German Eppendorf design standard. Our sample baskets are constructed from high-strength aluminum alloys and have a height of over 10mm, ensuring they can endure intense centrifugal forces. The machine shells are all made of 3mm steel with automatic electronic door locks, meeting strict safety requirements. Our centrifuge is equipped with a 750W motor that runs at 4500 r/min and can operate continuously for 4 hours without any issues, demonstrating excellent reliability and stability. **Note:** The radius of our basket is **R = 160.35 mm**, and the speed is **4500 r/min**.
