3D printing development bicycle intelligent safety device
Many cyclists believe that with enough time to ride, they can react to potential dangers on the road. However, in reality, this is often not the case. In today's world, distractions are everywhere—people are constantly looking at their phones while walking, and many cyclists rely on smartphones as navigation tools, which can be extremely dangerous when riding. Recently, an Italian startup named Pesaro introduced a smart safety device called Byxee, designed to enhance cyclist safety using advanced technology. This portable device can be attached to any bicycle and provides real-time alerts about potential hazards ahead. Byxee was developed by Riccardo Ricci, an AI expert from Italy. It works similarly to driver assistance systems found in modern cars, detecting moving or hazardous objects within its range and alerting the rider to avoid accidents. The device uses a camera and a microprocessor, combined with proprietary software that identifies shadows and compares images taken under normal daylight conditions to detect anomalies. The device scans the area 25 meters ahead of the bike at hundreds of times per second, detecting a wide range of dangers—including pedestrians, vehicles, flying objects, and even potholes. If the system detects an object larger than 76 mm, it will sound an audio alert to warn the rider. This level of detection helps prevent collisions and improves overall road safety for cyclists. Thanks to 3D printing technology, Byxee was developed quickly and efficiently. The company used a Kentstrapper Volta 3D printer to create multiple iterations of the design, significantly reducing development costs. This innovation allows for rapid prototyping and improvements without high expenses, making it easier to bring new ideas to life. The team behind Byxee consists of professionals from various industries, including automotive and tech sectors. They have previously worked on smart devices for major car brands. According to the team, the project took over two years of research and development, with continuous improvements in design, functionality, and performance throughout the process. Currently, the product is available on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, where early supporters can purchase a Byxee for $139. The expected retail price is $249. With its innovative approach and focus on safety, Byxee represents a promising step forward in making cycling safer for everyone on the road.
