In 1985, Yan Hongji did not expect to climb the peak above 8,000 meters above sea level. “There are no special feelings after the 14 seats have been completed. I just have to go on board,” he said. “I just like mountains. The mountains are my teacher and God.”

He said: There are many things you can learn in climbing, such as how to identify the weather, how to eat and dress in the mountains, and arrange your actions in an orderly manner. “After going up the mountain, I have to teach me what to do and what I should not do. I will always be a student of Dashan.”

The young Yan Hongji lived in a mountainous area in South Korea and had seen many foreigners hiking. To see more, he slowly fell in love with climbing. In fact, the highest peak in his hometown is only 740 meters.

In adulthood, he did not engage in specialized work. Parents opened a hotel in the area and provided professional services for climbers from all over the country. He usually helps there.

In 1985, he began to go hiking. The first peak of the climb was Everest in the world, but he failed twice.

In 1988, shortly after China, Japan, and Nepal achieved the first double-span Everest, he finally succeeded in the Mount Everest. From then on, he began the difficult journey of conquering 14 peaks in the world.

Yan Hongji arrived in China in 1993 and climbed the Mount Zhuoyou peak 8201 meters above sea level and the Xishabangma peak 8027 meters above sea level.

In 1995, it was an unforgettable time for Yan Hongji. A series of amazing actions made him explosively renowned in the world of mountaineering: He had three consecutive peaks in the spring, summer, and autumn of the year: Makalu, 8463 meters above sea level, and Bulo, 7047 meters above sea level. Mount Arter and Lhotse peak at 8,516 metres above sea level.

Since then, he has challenged his own limits with the speed of climbing two peaks each year. In 1996, he climbed the Dhaulagiri Mountain at 8167 meters and Manaslu Peak at 8163 meters. In 1997, he climbed 8068 meters above sea level. The peaks of Gakushulom I and the peak of Kashuluom II at an altitude of 8035 meters; in 1999, it reached the summit of Annapurna at an altitude of 8091 meters and the altitude of 8125 Nanga Parbat.

Yan Hongji said that among the 14 peaks, the tenth highest peak is Annapurna. He only succeeded in the fifth climb. During this period, a friend and two Nepalese collaborators were killed. He himself also suffered a slippery fall and a broken leg. He took three days and two nights to get down to the hill and was rescued by a rescue helicopter.

The year 2000 was the year of Yan Hongji’s decisive battle. This year, he successfully climbed Zhangjiafeng Peak at 8586 meters above sea level and Chorai Peak at 8,611 meters above sea level.

He said that he originally planned to finish 14 peaks in 15 years, but he did not expect to end this unforgettable journey three years in advance. Unfortunately, 8 friends were killed in the 12 years, 4 of them were Nepalese and 4 were Korean. He was very sad to lose these friends.

Yan Hongji, who had achieved great feats, did not stop climbing. Later, he again climbed the Lhotse, Shishabangma and Everest.

He said that the goal is to reach the summit of Mount Everest for the third time and to descend from the side of Nepal, then to climb the Lhotse Peak at 8,400 meters above sea level and Yalong Kang Peak at 8,505 meters above sea level.

Although these two peaks are linked with Lhotse Peak and Ganchengzhangjiafeng respectively, they are still not recognized as independent peaks by the international mountaineering community. However, Yan Hongji still insists that they be challenged as independent peaks.

Yan Hongji is currently studying Chinese at the Korean Studies University of Foreign Languages. He is already a second-year student and can speak some simple Chinese. In addition, he can speak English and Nepali.

In the world of mountaineering, Yan Hongji’s most admired are Messner of Italy and Kukuchka of Poland. He said he learned how to climb the mountain from these two people. He believes that the key to mountaineering is first of all good technology, followed by the weather, and the third must also strengthen the team's internal cooperation.

Yan Hongji, 44 years old, has a warm family. His wife is very supportive of his career. The 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son are the only ones he cares about in his mountain life. Despite the limited communication conditions in the mountains, he always tried to call the home or write a letter to express his family’s thoughts after entering the mountain.

Learned that "China's Tibet climbs 14 world-wide peak expeditions more than 8,000 meters above sea level" is climbing Makalu Peak. Yan Hongji said that although Makalu is not the highest mountain, it is not so simple to climb. He hopes that the Chinese team can achieve success. .
