Kyushu Space explains how dust meter works

The dust meter developed by our company operates based on the principle of light scattering. When air containing dust particles is drawn into the device through the sampling port, it first passes through a particle size separator. This cutter ensures that only particles smaller than a specified size enter the detection chamber. Larger particles are blocked and prevented from entering the dark chamber. Inside the dark chamber, the air flow carries the fine dust particles into the detection area, where they are exposed to a focused light source. As the dust particles interact with the light, they scatter it in various directions. The intensity of this scattered light is directly proportional to the mass concentration of the dust present in the air. The sensor within the device captures this scattered light and converts its intensity into an electrical signal. This signal is then processed by the internal detection circuitry, which translates it into a pulse count. This count represents the relative dust concentration, typically measured in counts per minute (CPM). The microprocessor of the instrument then uses a pre-set conversion coefficient, K, to calculate the actual mass concentration of the dust, expressed in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m³). This value is displayed on the device’s screen, providing real-time information about the air quality. This technology allows for accurate and reliable monitoring of particulate matter in the environment, making it ideal for use in industrial, environmental, and indoor air quality applications. Whether you're measuring PM2.5, PM10, or other particulate levels, our dust meter delivers consistent and precise results.
