Japan's online 3D printing service platform Rinkak wins another 400 million yen VC

In a recent development, Japan's leading online 3D printing service platform, Rinkak, along with its parent company Kabuku, has successfully secured 400 million yen in funding from Global Brain. Rinkak, launched in January 2013, serves as Kabuku’s online 3D printing platform, enabling businesses and individual creators to design, produce, and sell 3D-printed products through an online marketplace. Just months after its launch, Rinkak received a 20 million yen investment from angel investors in June 2013, signaling early confidence in the platform’s potential. Over the past two years, Kabuku has actively worked to diversify its business model. In addition to its core 3D printing services, Rinkak has introduced various innovative projects, including traditional Japanese crafts like lacquerware and samurai swords, as well as 3D printing design competitions. These initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to blending technology with cultural heritage. Notably, Kabuku is also collaborating with Toyota Motor Corporation on the development of custom 3D-printed automotive parts as part of Toyota’s Open Road project. This initiative supports the promotion of the i-Road, an ultra-compact electric vehicle, in Tokyo. Some components of the car can be customized using additive manufacturing techniques, highlighting the growing role of 3D printing in the automotive industry. In addition, Kabuku recently launched the Rinkak 3D Print Management Service Platform. According to the company, this cloud-based solution is designed for 3D printing services, offering a comprehensive one-stop platform that covers everything from website creation to order management, production, and sales.
