Color reduction method to make your prints have richer colors

In printing, printers need to deal with inks of various colors, which are available in a variety of colors. However, there are still many colors that need to be obtained by mixing a variety of color inks. Here, a color mixing method is used, and one of the most important ones is the color reduction method.

Color subtractive method

Let us first analyze the coloring principle of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y).

White light - red light = cyan (C)

White light - green light = magenta (M)

White light - blue light = yellow (Y)

That is to say, under the illumination of white light, the cyan pigment can absorb red and reflect cyan, the yellow pigment can absorb blue and reflect yellow, and the magenta pigment can absorb green and reflect magenta.

In addition, if the two pigments of Qinther and Yellow are mixed, under the illumination of white light, since the mixed pigment absorbs red and blue, and reflects green, the mixed pigment exhibits green color, and the color mixing of the other two pigments is also the same. which is:

Cyan pigment + yellow pigment = white - red - blue = green

Yellow pigment + magenta pigment = white - blue - green = red

Magenta pigment + cyan pigment = white - green - red = blue

It can be seen that the above are all subtractive color mixing, that is, different colors which are formed by absorbing different ratios of the three primary colors. Therefore, the three colors of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) are called the three primary colors of the colorant, and are also the three primary colors of the ink in printing.

Theoretically, when the same amount of C, M, and Y pigments are mixed, as the percentage of ink increases, the color should exhibit a gray-to-black gradient, which is the most basic color of the subtractive method. Change the law.

C+M+ Y=Black (White Light - Green Light - Blue Light - Red Light)

However, in fact, since the ink contains impurities, there are problems such as differences in density and reflectance, and this ideal state does not exist. Therefore, in order to make neutral gray after CMY mixing, it is necessary to select an appropriate hundred distribution ratio.
