China University of Science and Technology discovers the phenomenon of quantum correlation recovery in classical noise

Professor Li Chuanfeng's research group of the Key Laboratory of Quantum Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Academician Guo Guangcan of the University of Science and Technology of China, has made important progress in the study of quantum correlation dynamics. The collaborators of the research team and the United Kingdom and Italy used a simple model of a two-particle system to experimentally observe the recovery of quantum correlation in classical noise without the reaction of the system environment. The research results were published online on November 29 in the journal Nature.

Quantum correlation is a useful resource in the process of quantum information processing and is the key to realize quantum computing and quantum communication. However, quantum correlation is easily interfered by the noise of the surrounding environment. Quantum correlation will decay asymptotically in Markov noise, and even disappear completely within a limited evolution time. In non-Markov noise, the quantum correlation may be restored during the evolution process, thereby prolonging the use time of the correlation.

Because the quantum environment has an adverse effect on the system, the recovery phenomenon of quantum association is usually attributed to the back and forth exchange of quantum information between the system and the non-Markov environment. However, it has recently been discovered that there is also a quantum correlation recovery phenomenon in classical noise. The classical environment cannot store or share the quantum association in the quantum system, so the quantum association recovery in the classical environment without reaction will provide a new perspective for understanding some basic phenomena in quantum information science, such as the classical environment in quantum information processing and system evolution There may be collective effects of environmental noise and memory effects in the process.

Professor Li Chuanfeng's research group used a spontaneous parametric down-conversion process to prepare high-purity two-photon Bell diagonal states. One of the photon path degrees of freedom is used to simulate a random classic field, and a specific classicization process is realized through a measurement method that does not distinguish photon paths. By using the Babinet compensator to precisely adjust the phases on different paths, the time evolution characteristics of quantum correlation are obtained. This work makes it possible to regulate and control quantum-linked resources in a classical environment with no reaction, which can further simplify the conditions required for quantum-correlation restoration, and provides a new idea for studying the restoration of quantum-correlation in classical environments.
