America Makes officially approves PADT to develop 3D printed lattice test models

Recently, Phoenix Analysis & Design Technologies (PADT) has been approved by America Makes, the official 3D printing agency in the United States, to create a model that can effectively test the 3D printed lattice structure.

PADT is a provider of engineering products and services, including product development and 3D printing, located at the Arizona State University Research Park. They are leaders in the Additive Manufacturing Committee affiliated with the Arizona Technology Council. As the largest numerical simulation supplier in the Southwestern United States, they are particularly well known for providing simulation services to partners in the heavy industry.

These partners will also participate in this latest research project. Their old customers, Arizona State University (ASU), Honeywell Aerospace and LAI International, will work with PADT to study 3D printed lattice structures, Professor of University of Pittsburgh, 3D printing expert Howard Kuhn Will also be involved. Specifically, their goal is to create an ANSYS-based simulation model that predicts the response of these lattice structures to different environments and different forms of stress. This will drive product design in aerospace applications.

America Makes will provide $138,000 for the project, and PADT and its partners will invest $143,000. The project proposal was named "A Non-Empirical Predictive Model for Additively Manufactured Lattice Structures"

The author of the proposal, PADT senior technical expert Dhruv Bhate explained that the project is all related to performance prediction. “There are still some companies and organizations developing software for the design and optimization of lattice structures in additive manufacturing, but there has been little progress in developing a material model that accurately describes how these lattice structures react,” he said. “We are honored to be selected by America Makes to study this important issue, and we are proud to offer tools for entrepreneurs, manufacturers and makers. These tools enable them to incorporate lattice structures into their designs.”

The lattice structure is the key to reducing the weight of 3D printed parts. While they can reduce material costs, reduce production time, and make designs more flexible, engineers in the aerospace and automotive industries are still hesitant to use them. "The trickiest part is that we don't know how these lattice structures will react under different stress conditions," Bhate said. "And that's exactly what we're trying to solve. We're developing a material model, a mathematics. Representation, which predicts how these lattice structures will react."

In this project, PADT will develop verification methods for three different 3D printing processes and will test plastic 3D printers, metal laser 3D printers and electron beam 3D printers. The electron beam 3D printer will be supplied by LAI International, and Honeywell Aerospace will allow the project to use its company's scanning equipment, which will be used to detect defects. “The material model we developed will work for any 3D printing process,” Bhate said. “It is not limited to any type of material and 3D printing process.”

If the development is successful, the model will expand the application of 3D printing in the industrial field.

Desk Controller

Desk controller basic software is a PC/MAC software reminding the user to use the office desk. Allows user to control height adjustment and pre-set individual optimal sit-stand table height. Pick your personal challenge for standing at your desk and improve your health and work habits over time.

Hand controller also has many functions, such as two memory controller, metric and inch switch, overheat / overload protection, anti colony feature, soft start / stop feature, child lock and so on. There are also many types of hand controllers to choose from to meet the different requirements of customers.
