15-year-old genius 3D printing life-size functional robot

Inspired by Hugh Jackman, the star of the classic sci-fi movie "Tiejia Steel Boxing" produced in 2011, Dimitris Hatzis from Greece became the youngest person in the world to use 3D printing technology to create life-size functional robots. It is understood that the feat of the 15-year-old Dimitris Hatzis is part of the InMoov project, an open source project platform run by French sculptor and designer Gael Langevin.

The InMoov project provides a design that "anyone can use a home 3D printer to copy project designs in a 12 x 12 x 12 cm range." The 15-year-old Greek teenager took the project guide and spent a total of 1400 hours planning, trying, printing and assembling this life-size robot.

In the past year, he made 475 parts for assembling robots using ABS plastic material of about one kilometer in length. After assembly, Dimitris Hatzis named the robot "Troopy".

It is worth mentioning that so far, there are only six people in the world who can successfully complete the project design according to the operation guide provided by Gael Langevin, and Dimitris Hatzis is the youngest.

Other successful participants include Gael Langevin himself, two Russians, an Italian and a German. According to Dimitris Hatzis, he has recently been in contact with other project completions. Although others are older than him, he has become a colleague with them and has worked together to provide some new ideas for the entire project.

Currently, some of the main features of the Troopy robot include independent movement of the eyes and head, and at the same time, 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) are achieved on each arm. This 1.85-meter robot accurately mimics human movements and communicates with people in fluent English.

However, this robot has a long way to go before it is in perfect condition with the most advanced technology. Dimitris Hatzis explains: “Every new robot is an improvement over the previous robot, which is why the robot has not yet become the root cause of its final form. Because hardware and software improvements and updates have not stopped, So the robot may never reach the final form."

In addition, the 15-year-old boy also said that his interest in robots has been around since he was very young, but he did not think of building Tropyy robots until he saw "Tiejia Steel Boxing" at the end of 2013.

With this incredible design, Dimitris Hatzis won the first prize of the second Industrial Information Festival in Kavala, Greece this year. Interestingly, this guy won the second prize last year for designing and building a 3D home printer, so it seems that this guy is really a genius.
