Tmall Medical Center stalled in August and returned to Tencent and other drug trading service certificates (VC340)

The question "Can Tmall sell drugs" has an answer. After eight months of stagnation, the Tmall Medical Center opened quietly on the evening of February 27, and more than 10 pharmaceutical companies entered the site. About 20,000 kinds of drugs were displayed on this platform. The analysis believes that the era of medical e-commerce may start from this.

Entering the pharmaceutical company said that traffic sales doubled

More than 10 pharmaceutical companies including Shenzhen Neptune Grand Pharmacy, Shanghai Fumei Grand Pharmacy, and Beijing Golden Elephant Pharmacy have settled in the restarted Tmall Medical Center. The items displayed include OTC drugs, medical devices, nutrition and health care. Prescription drugs are not included in the sale.

The official opening of this time, Tmall Medical Museum follows the previous "jump" mode, that is, Tmall provides drug information display, and consumers purchase and jump to the corresponding pharmacy website to complete the transaction.

Xu Yi, the person in charge of the online pharmacy of Happy People, one of the pharmacies stationed in the company, said that within a day, Happy People's traffic and sales have doubled. However, the specific revenue growth rate will still run for a period of time.

Tencent and others all have drug trading certificate models or are imitated

In June 2011, Taobao Mall (later renamed Tmall) launched the "Medical Museum" to display over-the-counter medicines and health products. Five pharmaceutical companies, including Shanghai Fumei Pharmacy, Beijing Golden Elephant Pharmacy, Hangzhou Jiuzhou Pharmacy, Jiangxi Kaixin People's Pharmacy, and Yunnan Baiyao Pharmacy, collectively settled. After 18 days, due to lack of qualifications, the Zhejiang Food and Drug Administration of the registered place investigated and dealt with, and immediately stopped selling over-the-counter drugs. The State Food and Drug Administration said that Taobao has not obtained the qualification to sell drugs online.

It is reported that the sale of drugs through the Internet must be approved by the drug regulatory department to obtain the "Internet Drug Trading Service Qualification Certificate", which requires companies to own more than 10 physical pharmacies. Taobao Mall only obtained the "Internet Drug Information Service Qualification Certificate".

According to Tmall sources, part of the reason for the stagnation of the medical museum is the communication of the online drug sales process with the relevant departments.

Tmall's public relations department explained on February 28 that Tmall only established a platform to publish information, and it does not sell drugs, so it does not violate the rules.

However, another insider revealed that during the initial trial run in 2011, Tmall, like clothing and other products, could directly place orders to purchase medicines, so it was suspended.

It is reported that nearly one hundred pharmaceutical companies have obtained the "Internet Drug Information Service Qualification Certificate", and Tencent, Sohu and NetEase have all obtained drug transaction service certificates.

"The launch of Tmall Medical Museum means that the drug regulatory department has tacit approval of the 'jump' model. This is the vane of the pharmaceutical e-commerce industry," said the above.

Analysis: Weak and scattered medical e-commerce

Regarding the launch of Tmall Medical Center, industry insiders believe that at present, medical e-commerce is weak and scattered, and it is impossible to form a group. With the help of Tmall's platform and awareness, sales will go up, and the habit of buying medicines online can also be cultivated. However, some people think that the entry of pharmacies in Tmall will inevitably trigger a price war. Taobao's strong position will lead merchants to choose between going up and down, working for Taobao and cruelly eliminating.

It is not only Tmall who is interested in "selling drugs", but also Jingdong, which also does not have the qualification to sell drugs online, previously announced a cooperation with Kyushu Tong. Dangdang CEO Li Guoqing also said that he is actively applying for relevant operating qualifications.
