Operation and adjustment of closed scraper system (Part 1)

In recent years, the application of closed blade system in flexographic printing has been increasing day by day. In order to help flexographic printing operators understand the closed blade system in depth, this article will introduce you to the installation, adjustment and cleaning of closed blade system. Some tips and suggestions. It must be noted here that when performing the following operations, you must follow the recommendations and guidelines of the supplier of the closed blade system and refer to the operating manual.

Basic characteristics of closed blade system

The scraping method of the closed scraper system is shown in Figure 1. The basic characteristics of the system mainly include the following aspects.

(1) The unique chamber structure and double-layer ink seal design make the ink transfer effect better and save ink.
(2) The large amount of solvent in the ink is effectively controlled, the working environment is improved, and air pollution is reduced. Since most of the area where the ink is located is sealed, only a very small part in contact with the anilox roller is exposed, thus greatly reducing the amount of solvent volatilization.
(3) Good adaptability to printing speed, regardless of printing speed, the amount of ink transfer is fixed, so the printing quality is stable.
(4) A combination scraper can be used, and the replacement of the scraper is fast and simple.

Of course, there are still some problems with the closed blade system, for example: the contact angle of the closed blade and the freedom of pressure are very small, the uniformity of the ink scraping is very high, and the seal is required to be good, otherwise ink leakage is easy to occur. In addition, the cleaning operation after printing is more troublesome, especially the ink or varnish remaining in the dead corner is more difficult to remove, but the application of the automatic cleaning device solves this problem to a certain extent.

Squeegee and seal installation

1. Cutting blade

At present, there are many types of squeegees. No matter which type of squeegee is used, you must first carefully check whether there are small burrs, small gaps or other defects on the squeegee, which may negatively affect the printing or glazing process. Moreover, the blade of the scraper must be clean.

Be sure to wear protective gloves and protective glasses when cutting the scraper, and use special cutting tools to ensure that the cut edges are straight and neat. What is more important is to ensure that the length of the scraper is appropriate after cutting.

2. Install a new scraper

Loosen the screw on the knife holder, wear protective glasses and gloves, carefully remove the old scraper from the knife holder and ink chamber, and send it to the designated area for proper disposal.

Next, use a soft cloth dipped in an appropriate amount of special cleaning agent or hot water to gently wipe off the remaining dried ink or varnish in the knife holder. This is to enable the new blade to be installed straight in the ink chamber , To prevent the leakage of ink or varnish during operation.

When installing a new scraper, make sure that it has the proper length and no defects, and then tighten and fix the knife clamp. If the blade is bent or slack, it will not only affect the service life of the blade, but also cause the seal to leak easily. Leakage at the sealing strip is often caused by the excessive pressure of the doctor blade on the anilox roller. Therefore, it is very important to ensure that the sealing strip and the doctor blade are installed correctly.

3. Install the seal

Check carefully whether the width of the sealing strip is appropriate. Some sealing strips often have small burrs or have been damaged during the cutting process. Sealing strips of different materials also have different sealing properties. Therefore, it is necessary to consult with suppliers to understand which type of sealing strips should be adopted and why such sealing strips should be adopted. When cutting the sealing strip, it is necessary to ensure the accuracy of its size. Even a 1/4 inch deviation will seriously affect its sealing performance. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the sealing strip matches the closed scraper system used.

In addition, the surface of both ends of the anilox roller used with the closed blade system should be unengraved, that is, the surface of the end of the anilox roller that contacts the sealing strip is smooth, which can minimize Strip wear, and can effectively prevent ink or varnish from leaking from the seal during the transfer process. The main function of the sealing strip is to block the leakage of ink or varnish. Therefore, before starting to print, be sure to check the proper position of the sealing strip and the scraper.
