Japan Invents Machinery to Realize Plastic Garbage and Fuel Conversion

This technology offers a practical solution for households dealing with large amounts of plastic bags and other waste materials, turning them into valuable resources. The machine operates by first heating the plastic waste, which generates steam. This steam is then directed through a system of pipes and water chambers, where it is cooled and condensed into crude oil. This crude oil can be used as fuel for generators or stoves, and with further processing, it can even be refined into gasoline. This breakthrough provides an alternative energy source while reducing plastic waste accumulation. The device is marketed by Blest Corporation, a company founded by Ito Akira. It has gained significant popularity among consumers due to its efficiency and affordability. The machine can convert 1 kilogram of plastic waste into approximately 1 liter of crude oil, consuming only 1 kW of power. Currently, the machine is priced at $10,000, but as demand increases, the price is expected to decrease. Although burning the produced oil still releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the overall environmental impact is considered beneficial compared to the growing issue of plastic pollution. According to Envion, global plastic waste production reaches up to 50 million tons annually. If this waste were fully converted into crude oil, it could significantly reduce reliance on imported oil. In addition to converting plastic into fuel, another process allows for the transformation of waste plastic bottles into wood-plastic composites (WPC) in just 30 minutes. This composite material is not only free from formaldehyde but also offers eco-friendly, cost-effective, and fully recyclable properties. WPC is now widely used in construction, road barriers, industrial pallets, packaging boxes, and agricultural greenhouses, helping to recycle a substantial amount of plastic waste. Shaanxi Huisheng New Resources Technology Co., Ltd. has implemented this technology on a large scale, operating 60 production lines that can produce over 20,000 tons of new wood-plastic composite materials annually. This not only helps address the problem of white pollution and makes use of agricultural fibers, but also supports regional economic development and circular economy practices. The company’s new wood-plastic agricultural greenhouse framework is particularly cost-effective, being one-third cheaper than steel. It can be used to build double-layer greenhouses, enhancing crop growth. These products are versatile and suitable for constructing platforms, railings, walkways, interior decoration, logistics, and transportation pallets, making them a sustainable and economical choice across various industries.
