Japan Develops High Critical Current Density YBCO Superconducting Thin Films

London (Metals Network) allegedly developed a supercritical oxide film with a high critical cell density at the High-Tech Research Institute of Japan (AIST). The film is made of cerium-copper-oxygen grown by extension, 30 cm long and 10 cm wide. At -196°C, the film has a critical current density of 1.9 x 10-6 amps/cm2.
The growth of the cerium-based oxide film requires a certain optical environment. To this end, a transition layer of ceria was prepared by vacuum deposition on a sapphire substrate at the AIST Institute of Materials Chemistry.
The electrical industry has a large demand for superconducting transistor current limiters. To this end, the Institute plans to conduct a current carrying capacity test to examine its current limiting performance.
