The metal ladder erected by the Chinese mountaineering team on the second step of Mount Everest in 1975 was once the only way for climbers to climb the world's highest peak along the northern slope. From May 23, a new metal ladder was set up next to the original metal ladder, which improved the unobstructed capacity of the second step.
According to the person in charge of the Tibet Autonomous Region Sports Bureau, the northeastern ridge climbing route opened by the Chinese mountaineers on the north side is an important route leading to the top, where the second step at an altitude of about 8,700 meters is a cliff with a height difference of more than 10 meters. In 1975, when the Chinese mountaineering team climbed Mount Everest again, a metal ladder about 6 meters long was erected here. From then on, many climbers used this ladder to realize their dream of becoming the world's highest peak.
Before 1960, when Wang Fuzhou, Qu Yinhua, and Gong Bu of the Chinese mountaineering team climbed Everest for the first time from the north slope, they climbed the dangerous section by taking a ladder.
However, the second step is still full of difficulties for climbers, although there are metal ladders, but because of the steep and narrow, often due to wait for the climbers in the cold damage caused by this and so on. To this end, the Tibet Mountain Association organized the members of the Tibetan mountaineering team, the Tibet Mountaineering Comprehensive Training School and the Sacred Mountain Adventure Company to set up a metal ladder presented by the Himalayan Expeditions of France next to the original metal ladder.
